Farmers representing 36% of the Alconbury Brook catchment took part in a survey looking at cultivation and drainage. Many of those who completed the questionnaire attended a session to discuss the results at Holly Lodge Cafe. The conversation covered many topics to do with getting the best results from heavy clay soil, including autumn and spring sowing, cultivation methods, cover crops, drainage, reducing compaction and soil testing. Many of the same issues affect how quickly rainwater gets into the brook, it was clear that farmers and the flood group can work together. There will be a future meeting on funding schemes which will support farmers' efforts in reducing flood risk.

The survey was organised by a small group of farmers and the Flood Group.
