Hi Everyone, Antony here, back in March I promised a few more editions to the site to come.
Today I have just published a change to the Current Flood Risk Data page, if you head over you will now see the daily Soil Moisture Measurements and what it has been for roughly the last year. This is a new chart with a new API so although I am super confident the values are correct, the chart itself might be coloured incorrectly (but we live and learn!).
Essentially, anything around the 1200 mark means there is no space left in the soil to store more water. So if it rains, it's not going into the ground, it's going to puddle, pool and run into the brook immediately. If however at the other end, were hitting the 2900 mark, then the soil is super dry and there is a lot more space for water to go, before it hits the brook. Though I have had it pointed out to me that the science behind this is a tad more complex.
