The two right-hand culverts of Nuns Bridge have been partially blocked for years. The culvert furthest to the right is now totally blocked on the downstream side by a large tree. Last week a group of Flood Group volunteers and contractors ‘Silver Fern’ removed material in front of the next culvert (see diagram) where it had slipped and used it to restore the bank. The new brook edge and bank will be pinned in place with willow hurdles. We are very grateful to Nick, Jeremy, Terry, Stephen, Steve, Jarrod, and Chelsey for their hard work hand-digging the bank soil from the channel.
We would also like to thank Cllr Ian Gardner, whose exceptional efforts and interest ensured we had funding for the project. We also appreciate the support of Cambridgeshire Highways, the Local Flood Authority, and Huntingdonshire District Council, who partly funded the scheme. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to Country Park Rangers Sam and Matthew for their support. Also many thanks to Frazer, who is a local professional ornithologist who checked the site for nesting birds before work commenced.
