Work started on a new pond on Winwick Brook this week. Winwick Brook runs into Alconbury Brook north of Hamerton and carries more than 10% of peak flows and so our flood management work here will make a tangible contribution to reducing flood risk.
We have plans for several ponds along the length of this brook this year which will create a freshwater wildlife corridor. Unlike the brook itself our ponds will hopefully not dry up in the summer.
Funding for this pond has come from a variety of sources including the Alconbury Weston Open Garden team to whom we are very grateful.
